Translation
This is the service most of my clients request from me, and not without reason. A good translation can bring cultures and countries together, disseminate knowledge, promote businesses beyond borders. I see translation as an essential element to develop and support the globalized world we live in. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
As you can tell by the site’s URL, I translate between English and Portuguese (Brazilian), using both as source and target languages.
Proofreading
Wrong punctuation, misspelled words, typos… Small mistakes can damage not only the readability, but also the meaning of your text. And they slip by more often than you’d think, especially when you’ve been working on the same text for way too long or if you know exactly what it’s supposed to say. That’s why getting your text proofread by a third party is a key step in verifying and improving its quality.
For proofreading, I work with both original texts and translations, in English and in Brazilian Portuguese. And for my own translations, I always make sure to proofread them AT LEAST three times.
Transcreation
According to Wikipedia, transcreation “(...) refers to the process of adapting a message from one language to another, while maintaining its intent, style, tone and context. A successfully transcreated message evokes the same emotions and carries the same implications in the target language as it does in the source language.” Need I say more?
Oh, actually I do. Since transcreation requires an extensive knowledge of the target culture as well as language, I only transcreate into Brazilian Portuguese.
Localization
If transcreation is about creativity, localization is about culture. When you localize a text, you go beyond words – colors, images, and even text placement have to be considered. That’s why localization projects are so popular for apps and websites: so that you can communicate with a wide audience in all levels of communication.
As with transcreation, I only work with localizations from English into Brazilian Portuguese.
